The air cargo volume of Chilean airlines decreased by 3.8%, and rising costs led to a decline in competitiveness.

Chile's El Financiero reported on January 2nd that according to a report released by the Chilean Civil Aviation Directorate (JAC), as of the first 11 months of 2025, the cumulative air freight volume in Chile decreased by 3.8% year-on-year. The cost of air freight in Chile has risen significantly, and its freight competitiveness in the Latin American region has declined.

The Association of Chilean Airlines stated that the concessionaire of Santiago Airport has set new charging standards and additional fees, and has started charging rental fees for equipment on the apron, resulting in a significant increase in export costs. Exporters of products such as salmon and fruits have begun to choose alternative routes, exporting fresh products to other regions via airports in cities such as Buenos Aires in Argentina, São Paulo in Brazil, or Montevideo in Uruguay.
