The Moroccan government has officially launched the construction of the dedicated railway line for Gotion High-Tech's power battery factory.
According to a report by Moroccan media Le Desk on August 13, the Moroccan government recently issued a decree to designate a state-owned land plot of approximately 23.88 hectares in Sidi Slimane Province as public land for the implementation of the dedicated railway line project of Gotion High-Tech's power battery factory, marking that the Moroccan government has officially launched the construction of this dedicated railway line at the legal level. The railway is planned to extend eastward along Morocco's National Road 4, connect to the existing Kenitra-Sidi Kacem main railway line, and link to Sidi Yahya El Gharb Station.
The report points out that the dedicated railway line is one of the key supporting infrastructures for Gotion's project. At present, the first phase of Gotion High-Tech's project mainly relies on National Road 4 for raw material transportation, which faces heavy traffic pressure during peak hours. According to the environmental impact assessment document of the project, after the completion of Gotion High-Tech's factory, it will consume about 95,000 tons of iron phosphate, 24,200 tons of lithium carbonate and 15,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas every year, 80% of these raw materials are imported from China. The Gotion High-Tech power battery factory is designed with an annual output of 20 GWh of LFP power batteries, and the total production capacity can reach 100 GWh after future expansion. The factory is scheduled to be put into operation at the end of 2026. According to Gotion High-Tech's 2025 annual report, by the end of 2025, the company has invested a total of about 629 million RMB in the Morocco project, accounting for 7% of the total planned investment for the first phase.
