The 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games is set to open in Beijing in August, with a sharp increase in its scale and competition events.

The 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games will kick off on August 22 at the National Speed Skating Oval "Ice Ribbon", co-hosted by the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, China Media Group and other relevant institutions.

This edition of the event has attracted 666 teams and 2056 robots from 16 countries across 6 continents to compete on the same field. The total number of teams has increased by 138% year on year, and the number of robots has quadrupled.

  • On the international front, robot teams from the United States, Germany, Japan and other regions have all signed up for the competition. Brazil has even assembled 5 champion teams from the RoboCup to form a national joint team to participate.
  • On the domestic front, 157 enterprises, 641 teams and 1975 robots have gathered at the venue. Almost all leading enterprises in the sector are present, with 27 985 Project universities participating. Domestic teams cover 30 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and special administrative regions, realizing widespread participation across the country.

The total number of competition events has expanded from 26 in the first edition to 51, building a full-dimensional technical "training ground".

Extreme breakthroughs are worth looking forward to

This year's newly added high-intensity competitive events including long jump, weightlifting, tug-of-war and table tennis are all extreme tests for the robot's brain, cerebellum, body structure and core components. Every extra centimeter jumped on the field, every extra kilogram lifted, is the result of engineers' continuous optimization of design, precision machining, testing and verification for joint motors and reducers.

In terms of scenario applications

14 scenario-based events are newly added in this edition

covering 9 major fields including household services, hotel operations and logistics. To address the common bottlenecks restricting industrial implementation, two hardcore challenges are launched:

  • The first is the debut of the dexterous hand special competition, which stages a "micro-operation duel" at the fingertips, with 8 high-precision subjects such as electric tool assembly and tweezers bean picking, testing the robot's macro vision for "clear observation", planning logic for "comprehensive thinking", force control precision for "stable gripping" and operation capability for "accurate execution", making every effort to break through the "last mile" of manual operation tasks.
  • The second is the innovatively set "Pentathlon of Integrated Scenarios" competition, which deeply integrates sprint racing with scenario tasks. Robots need to complete multiple tasks such as dexterous operation, stable delivery and heavy object handling while running on the 100-meter track, which requires not only high running speed but also high operation precision, to comprehensively test their understanding of the physical world and whole-body coordination level.
