In April 2026, the number of electric vehicle registrations in Ireland increased by 73% year-on-year, and the penetration rate continued to rise.

   According to a report by the Irish Observer on May 12th: The latest data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) shows that the number of private electric vehicle licenses issued in April increased by 73% compared with the same period in 2025, with nearly 3,100 vehicles registered in total. The CSO stated that this means that from January to April 2026, electric vehicles accounted for 23% of new private cars, compared with 16% in the same period in 2025. Since 2026, nearly a quarter of new private cars have been pure electric vehicles, and the popularity of electric vehicles in Ireland is continuously rising.
