South Sudan launches a $50 million climate resilience project to tackle flood disasters, benefiting 1.7 million people.

    News from African newspapers on April 28, 2026  The Ministry of Environment and Forestry of South Sudan, in collaboration with the World Food Programme and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, has launched a $50 million climate resilience project. The project focuses on addressing seasonal flood disasters in the states of Northern Bahr el Ghazal and Warrap in the northwest. Supported by the Green Climate Fund, the project will benefit approximately 1.7 million people and aims to enhance the ability of communities, ecosystems, and local institutions to cope with climate shocks.

    The Acting Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Environment stated that the project management team is in place, and the project has transitioned from the planning stage to the implementation stage, which will provide long-term solutions for the disaster-stricken areas.
