The Brazilian government has significantly increased import tariffs on grain-oriented silicon steel and hot-rolled pickled steel.
Brazil has raised the import tariffs on grain-oriented silicon steel and hot-rolled pickled steel to 25% for a period of 12 months.
Recently, the Executive Management Committee (GECEX) of the Brazilian Foreign Trade Commission decided at its meeting to increase import tariffs on multiple categories of products, including steel products such as grain-oriented electrical steel (Mercosur customs tariff number 7225.11.00) and hot-rolled pickled steel (Mercosur customs tariff numbers 7208.26.90 and 7208.27.90). The import tariff for grain-oriented electrical steel has been raised from 12.6% to 25%, and that for hot-rolled pickled steel has been increased from 10.8% to 25%, both with a duration of 12 months.
