South Sudan promises to invest 62 billion South Sudanese pounds in promoting agricultural development in the 2025/26 fiscal year.

Abdul Bagi, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of South Sudan, stated at the Third Juba Economic Forum that concluded last week that, in the face of reduced international aid and uncertain oil revenues, the South Sudanese government is committed to providing 62 billion South Sudanese pounds (approximately $12 million) in the 2025/2026 fiscal year to support agricultural development.

He said that these funds will be used to provide fuel, seeds, and consulting services to farmers across the country. Among the 100 tractors that have been purchased, 40 have been allocated to the South Sudan People's Defense Forces (SSPDF) to enhance agricultural productivity.

He urged diplomatic missions and the private sector to shift from short - term agricultural investments to long - term ones. He also mentioned that in order to improve agricultural technology, the national government is collaborating with states and administrative regions to designate 250,000 demonstration farms each covering an area of 4,200 square meters, where South Sudanese farmers can learn and adopt modern agricultural practices.

In addition, at the Third Juba Economic Forum, participants put forward 40 resolutions to stimulate agricultural development and promote economic growth. Participants generally agreed that as the country seeks to strengthen food security and reduce its reliance on unstable external funding sources, promoting domestic agricultural production has become a national priority.
