Morocco accelerates the upgrading of the automotive industry, aiming for new goals in electric vehicle production in 2025.
Recently, Ryad Mezzour, the Minister of Industry of Morocco, made a significant announcement that the country aims to increase the production of electric vehicles to 107,000 by the end of 2025, accelerating the electrification transformation process of the automotive industry. Currently, the automotive industry in Morocco has shown a strong development momentum. The minister revealed that the country's current annual automobile production reaches 700,000, and it is growing rapidly.
According to the plan, by the end of 2025, the total automobile production is expected to climb to 1 million, among which the significant increase in electric vehicle production will become an important growth point. The setting of this goal not only demonstrates Morocco's ambition in the field of automobile manufacturing but also marks its active layout in the global electric vehicle industrial chain. The automotive industry, as the core engine of Morocco's economic growth, holds a crucial strategic position.
According to the data from the Moroccan Ministry of Industry, this industry has ranked as Morocco's largest export industry for many consecutive years, accounting for more than 25% of the country's total exports, and its products are sold to regions such as Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Its booming development has not only created more than 400,000 direct jobs in Morocco but also driven the coordinated development of upstream and downstream industries such as parts manufacturing and logistics transportation, contributing up to 10% to the GDP. The proposal of this electric vehicle production target meets Morocco's dual needs for green development and industrial upgrading. As the global automotive industry transforms towards electrification and intelligence, Morocco, with its superior geographical location, relatively complete industrial foundation, and government policy support, is actively attracting international automotive giants to invest and set up factories.
