Chile's Ñuble Region has approved a photovoltaic power station project

Radio Biobío of Chile reported on July 23 that the Environmental Assessment Commission of Ñuble Region (Coeva) approved the Environmental Impact Assessment Report for the Las Mellizas photovoltaic power plant project this Wednesday. Located in the city of Pemuco, the project has an investment of 400 million US dollars and was submitted by the Chilean company Las Mellizas Generación. The power plant has an installed capacity of 300 MW, which is planned to be connected to the national power system, and will become the largest photovoltaic power plant in Ñuble Region upon completion. Covering an area of 317 hectares, the project plans to install 260,232 photovoltaic modules, equipped with a step-up substation, 4.5 km of high-voltage transmission lines and a 1,200 MWh energy storage system, with a construction period of 24 months. Diego Sepúlveda, Presidential Delegate for Ñuble Region, stated that the project will boost the regional economy, create jobs, strengthen energy infrastructure and consolidate Ñuble's position as a key region for clean energy production. The project involves the temporary occupation of 210.8 hectares of agricultural land, and the enterprise promises to compensate for the loss of land productivity of 110.3 hectares by improving the irrigation system.
