National Radio and Television Administration issues classification and tiered standards for AI micro-dramas

On June 25th, the Audio-visual Department of the National Radio and Television Administration released the "Management Reminder (Classification and Hierarchy Standards for AI Mini-dramas)".

The management reminder states that artificial intelligence technology has been widely applied in the field of mini-dramas, improving work efficiency, expanding the boundaries of creation, and empowering the development of the industry. At the same time, it has significantly reduced production costs. To further implement the relevant requirements of the National Radio and Television Administration regarding the classification and hierarchical management of mini-dramas and promote the healthy development of mini-dramas, the classification and hierarchy standards for AI mini-dramas are hereby reminded as follows:

AI mini-dramas with an investment of 800,000 yuan or more, or those of special themes where the main plot involves politics, military, diplomacy, national security, united front work, ethnicity, religion, justice, public security, etc., shall be managed as "key mini-dramas". AI mini-dramas with an investment between 300,000 yuan (inclusive) and 800,000 yuan and of general themes shall be managed as "ordinary mini-dramas". AI mini-dramas with an investment of less than 300,000 yuan and of general themes shall be managed as "other mini-dramas".

This standard shall come into force as of July 1st, 2026.
