Exports to China have driven the rapid development of Brazil's sorghum industry.
Brazilian agricultural media reported recently that driven by the dual impetus of growing demand in the Chinese market and the expansion of the domestic ethanol industry, Brazil's sorghum industry has achieved rapid development, with its industry status steadily improving, and has now grown into one of Brazil's major cash crops. The opening up of the Chinese market is the core driving force behind the rapid growth of Brazil's sorghum exports. Following the on-site inspection of Brazil's sorghum producing areas by Chinese technical teams that fully opened up bilateral trade channels, the export volume of Brazilian sorghum has risen sharply. The export volume in the first eight months of this year has exceeded the total of last year, with exports in September expected to reach 1 million tons, and the market price of sorghum has risen significantly. The latest data from Brazil's National Food Supply Company (Conab) shows that Brazil's sorghum output in the 2025/26 crop year is expected to reach 7.35 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 20.4%. Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) predicts that with the upgrading of planting technology and the expansion of sown area, Brazil's sorghum output is expected to increase to 15 million tons from 2030 to 2035, doubling its production volume.
